news from the fun bus

ballymunday 10th november 2008
no milk today

well, technically, what i meant to say was... 'no gigs this week'.

the acoustic disco has been unplugged beyond recognition and is now inaudible. listen, do you want to know a secret? seriously, you can hear it... there you just missed it.

the chap says he'll be doing *it* elsewhere in december, so you may yet get a bit of fun before 2008 becomes a mere twinkle in your nostalgic, or perhaps conjuntivised, eye.

no deadlies this week either, but we will be playing in swords some thursday in december.

now, let it not be said that i let you down without a gentle 'one something else'...

so, what can i give you, poor as i am? if i were a shepherd, i would bring a lamb. if i were a wise man, i would do my part, apparently.

i am far from wise so, lie back and think of japan. lovely!

fryday 24th october 2008
how do you do?

i'm back in the commonwealth for the weekend, so i must ask... how do you do?

the gig at the boom boom room was indeed better than average, people even said they enjoyed it - and i don't just mean the band! obviously we had fun, 'cos we are fun, but other people did too.

there are a few clips up on the fun towers channel for your pleasure. you have to squint to get the full effect, but it's almost like being there.

more gigs coming up; thursday 13th november, the lotts, on liffey st. 9 bells. fo' sho'

we might have a random gig before that, have a look at myspace for details, but if not, the yeh deadlies are playing anseo on sunday 16th november.

after that jf is off to the united american emirates and may play for you if you happen to live in chicago or new york city, but you'll have to ask nicely.

in conclusion, i offer you something to think aboot, well said paul...

"some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs, and what's wrong with that"?

monday 29th september 2008
the fun's over, let the fun begin

gig o'clock

we're doing another gig - two in a year. it's like a tour. just a really really slow drawn out tour

thursday 9 october doors 830pm €5/€3 - boom boom room, murrays, o'connell st, d1, northside obviously

we're playing with 'the marriage of a dead dog SING', and 'bored with cereal'

here's what's being said...

jonny fun and the… hesitations play nice tunes that make you smile on the inside. in 2003 they were voted one of the 12 best bands in drogheda; quite an achievement. their own website (here!) describes them as "average". they have tried to build on this success by recording some of their tunes. this is taking quite a while, they started their debut album 'carpe p.m.' in 2004. those of you who realise it is now 2008 will see that the album is definitely carpe-ing the p.m.

jf&t...h don't gig that much but they are allowed out in special circumstances, thus the band are very excited about playing the Boom Boom Room. they will be singing and playing guitars, bass, drums, as well as a collection of children's instruments. jf&t...h will be joined by the funettes this time around. rumours are that this performance may surpass average and might even be considered reasonable.

oooooo yeah

sunday 17th august 2008
four years and several chords ago...

...we did some recording.

this weekend we did a bit more! mambo came over from scotch. i picked him up late on friday night. we got in the swing by going straight to the KING. it was reasonable.

we got up the next day (the sabbath) and did a range of indoor activities. we had a beer (between us), strummed, plunked, considered maslow and his needs, mildly grooved, shook eggs, did silent harmonies, and stayed up til it was nearly light. we'd missed the sunset the previous night, so felt we could remedy this by seeing a bit of sunrise.

oh, and we had pizza. in fact, we made pizza, for pizza is the best.

and thanks for asking, moral panic was fun - we put a couple of videos up on youtube for your... delectation.

keep half an ear cocked, more good news is on the way. in the meantime, i remain, your humble servant, jfun.

p.s. special thanks (and a nice pizza in the post) to zonja and H who have made this here website nice to read for people who have firefoxes... why rodents use computers i dare not ask.

Is it really Tuesday 10th June 2008?
jonny's back and there's gonna be a party (hey now, hey now)

i'm not even going to try to explain the radio silence. we've done a little hesitating in the preceding year, emphasis on little. we did record a christmas song, that was fun. more on that come the season to be jonnyfun, tra la la la la la la la la.

no gigs since le drog though, however (!) we are playing in that england next week - june 21st, in huddersfied, at the laurence batley theatre. it's part of moral panic III. do come along, it's guaranteed to be reasonable.

grave deene from the yeh deadlies is up for drumming for us too - so you might yet hear some tunes on a CD by the time summer's out.

p.s. i've had 2 haircuts since my last blog. get thee to a funnery.

Monday 18th June 2007
live in louth - again

following on from the glocks' epic two date tour, more live shows are on the northern horizon. first up, friday 29th with the glocks in the black bull, le drog, then the following wednesday 4th july jf&th return to mcphails in the same dirty old town - for the first time since october 2003, and bejaysus, what a night that was. jonny will be respendent in stars and stripes that night.

king pr0n club is on again next thursday. what a busy time we will be having.

and, yes there is more, this here website has been updated with some sillyness. have a look around, as tony rudd would suggest.

p.s. i got that haircut...

Monday 4th June 2007
glockin' all over the world - part II

we are back.

our tour was a raging success.

king pr0n club was great craic. our four hour sleep followed by mad dash to the friday ferry was less fun. but we made it. just.

we hung out with bertie in shipley and went off to moral panic. there was a little panicing (sp) taking place but we managed to have a great day. big monster love played with us glocks and we did glock and roll.

there are some photos over here where you can look at us, like you do with photos.

my new favourite band is of course the rocky nest (after the hives). they are v cool, and brought rhubarb along for the people of sheffield. they also drove in a real bus, whereas we had a cramped glockmobile. for this i give them a collective HI5 and hell, individual HI5's too. i implore you to do the same.

i also particularly liked this man.

might have a lie down now, as the tour has taken it out of me. it is also imperative that i get a haircut...

Sunday 27th May 2007
glockin' all over the world

howdy.

are you having fun so far in the breaking sun?

we are basking in it here at fun towers. so much so that this website has been left to rot, electronically.

i've done a little bit of recording, which you can hear over here

and news of two gigs with the glockenspiel alliance!

i know, you wait for ages and two come along like fun busses'. in fact, it's like a tour.

first up is king pr0n club, stick that in your SPAM filter. the glocks are playing with big monster love (you know him already), and rats of the shining path.

then we're all aboard the fun bus and off to moral panic. it's a bit like what we did in sheffield at WIS04. there'll be a load of bands, like eurovision but in sheffield, and without a competition with phone voting. so not much like eurovision. it'll be lush though. that mush i do know.

it'd be lovely to see you there.

news just in

jf and perhaps a hesitation will be playing tomorrow night - 5th march - in eamon doran's.

'eamon doran's what?' i hear you ask.

indeed.

yes, 8 p.m., in town, five of your finest i'm told, unless you are in DURNS.

i'm not completely sure what DURNS stands for yet, but i belive the words Dublin University Rock Nostalgia and Society are in there somewhere. clearly i am there for the rock element.

monday is the new friday night! sadly, tuesday is still tuesday though.

Monday 29th January 2007
chicken pop

alfredo, who is spanish and another international fan of jf&th, misheard me in a pub the other night. he thought i had been doing 'chicken pop' over christmas. it took a little conversational repair to get things back on track. but after the bar staff separated us, we managed to laugh about it.

so, what exactly would chicken pop sound like? fowl, i presume.

in the meantime i put a song called 'drunken eyes' up on myspace.

it's from our album '1905', which will follow our release of 'carpe p.m.'

no, really, one day it will. and you'll be glad we kept you waiting.

before i go, news just in. me and andy from the glocks are doing medical experiments. it is winter and everyone's feeling a bit down, so we thought we'd try out hand (and mouths) at ginseng. it's a great game for all the family. we'll let you know who wins.

Friday 12th January 2007
in the bleak midwinter, jonny fun made moan

hello

a special thanks to all of you who have come to within 17 yards of me to offer some new year greetings.

'jonny pox and the... [oooh, aaaah] itching sensations' are a band in decline i am delighted to announce. i am however still quite hirsute and ringing my bell (of warning) as i wander the streets.

other than that, nowt much has happened. i was meant to go see mambo but my disease put a stop to that. i did see john play a fine role as bing crosby in sunderland, tho. he was dreaming of a white christmas. i had a white christmas, a calamine christmas. did i mention i'd been bad?

oh, and, as if i could forget... those lovely eircom people came and brought me the winternet, 'cos it's winter.

back soon with a tune

shalom

Friday 22nd December 2006
what became of the people we used to be?

season's greetings spice fans!

i am back.

technically i wasn't away, just incapacitated. ironically, i am perhaps more incapacitated now than i've been all year. i've got the pox. chicken pox! yeah, why bother having an adults' disease when you can have a kids'one instead?

i have taken a photo for the gallery, but the censors are having a think before they say i can upload it or not, i pray for your eyes' sake that they say nay.

due to spectacular incompetence at eircom, i still don't have the interweb at home - which explains why i've told you nowt in months. i did try to update from an ecafe but the people were all too smelly for me to stay more than a few minutes and upload. i know all you jf&th fans are supremely hygenic, but not everyone in society has our strong morals. it is our job to eduate by leaving soap in ecafes.

anyway, i don't think i've don't much jf&th-ing since the last update, but we have been a major force in dublin's finest supergroup the glock alliance . we've done a few of the jf&th set in there with the band, and it sounds rather good.

so, go off and have a listen and we'll see you in 1907

mulled love and lime

Saturday 8th July 2006
all change

aaalreet?

i am surrounded by boxes. cardboard boxes. loads of them. well, less than 273.

can you guess why?

no, it's not 'cos i've built a fort in my room, but close.

that's right. i'm moving.

fun towers, or hesitations heights (as it says on the plaque) is moving down the road. we're going to load up the fun bus with our boxes, make sure we can see out of the rear view mirror, then drive safely to our new location, probably park, and unload said boxes.

hell, if i'm in a good mood i might even unpack! however, some of the stuff i packed away 2 years ago is still in boxes. maybe i should get rid of some stuff? what do you think? if you feel strongly you might like to say it to a hesitation

so, in case it goes a bit quiet on this here interwebsite, this is problies why. i'm not clever enough to do ftp from a winternet cafe, and even if i was, what would happen if i forgot to log off and someone messed up the site and posted false news? oh dear, i'm even a little bit sad thinking about that.

before i become distraught i'll tell you that i might have a gig on the 22nd, and perhaps i might be playing with the dead flags in sligo on the 29th, but i'd not like you to go cancelling your plans just yet. i'll problies put a note on myspace about it, when i know, like.

before i go, here are the two rules of showbusiness...

1. always leave them wanting more

Monday 26th June 2006
tired and emotional

yes folks, jf&th had a big weekend.

it was more fun than you could shake your hair at to play at radio city on saturday. if you have a lot of hair that is. jf was the warm up for outpost alpha - so cheers lads for asking me up to do a tune or 11. great gig. and i'd even say that if i hadn't been playing, hell i even had a dance.

the loyal and dedicated jf&th fans who availed of the free fun bus to radio city were also treated to a fine show by aaron smyth and the born days .

so in summary, i had a blast. after my blast i was asked to keep the noise down and get on with the set. funtastic.

there were a few puzzled glances from the crowd when 'your name in song' was played without the glock for the second gig in a row. i'm afraid that caroline was struck down by a sudden bout of glockitis and had to go to cork to get some cream. the official jf&th physio team are helping her back to her best, so worry not. there will be glock again. and perhaps a bit of 'boom ch ch, boom ch' at a gig soon too.

my, aren't we progressing?

in light of recent events, i implore you... 'spend some time alone each day'

Sunday 18th June 2006
radio city

no, not the music hall in new york

the place down by bus aras. saturday 24th, 8 p.m. ish. jf (& perhaps a th) will be supporting outpost alpha. which is quite exciting if i may say so myself. i think it'll cost you more than a smile to get in this time. you could try to smile though and show some leg. chance it.

last week's gig was quite fun, and quiet. which was good 'cos it was a big day of footie afterwards. not many people wore minimal clothing to get around the heat of the hut. it's as if no one's reading this...

howdy folks

just a late 'letting you know' post to say i'm playing in the hut the morra night, 8 p.m. it's just after deutschland play them costa reekans. you should know where the pub is now, just beside abrakebabra at the four corners of hell in phisboro.

big monster love is the guru of the event, and the hollows are playing too. i costs you a wink and a smile to get in. no money will change hands.

i advise minimal clothing, 'cos it'll be geet hot up there. but remember to keep yourself decent, too much flesh from the boys might put me off me singing.

aaalreet?

i couldn't find my pc to update this here website. my hair was too long. i have since had it cut, in LA Hair on the north circular road. by a nice lady who was on the way (quite literally) to see take that.

next time i go in i'll ask for a discount and mention their free mention here. it'll probably turn into a "meantion" - someting you mean to say but forget to.

enough talk of hair. i'm playing with outpost alpha in the next month. more details when i know them. before that big monster love is having a disco in his hut on 9th june. do come along.

i'm going out for a walk, and a pint, now. i'll be in clarkes if you're looking for me.

ear candy

hi folks, how are you? keeping well? how was your weekend?

(pause to await your reply)

that's great/sorry to hear that*

mine was pretty good i have to say. the gig went really well, people even clapped and whooped now and again. lillian played bass like a real basist, caroline sang and glocked beautifully, and big monster love gave us a blow of his melodica. and someone said i was a bit like ear candy. which was nice. all the CDs went too. remember if you get bored of them, there is a bit on 'things to make and do' in the fun section.

also, a couple of people asked for a copy of our buddy holly cover - we'll have to record it first, then we'll give it to you!

so, the yeh deadlies were deadly, big monster love put on a top set, and paul o'reilly was o'really good and got big monster love and padraig up to join him. i whipped out the glock and melodica for paul and big monster love too. good work people, i had me some fun. i do think the pub should be called 'the hot', 'cos it gets geet warm up there.

it was great that so many people came along, and i got some pressies for my birthday - so thank you - you are kind and good. there were also two banners saying 'happy birthday caroline (crossed out) jonny fun (in biro)'. i was touched.

it was also sarah king's birthday, and i forgot to say "happy birthday" when i was on stage. sorry about that sarah king. i guess i'm just a fool. i will take you to your brother burger's restarurant for a soda pop in an effort to make up for this.

to end on a positive note, mambo has turned up - remember he went down to the docks to see about us going on a stow away trip to philly? well, bejaysus, he ended up in lanzarote (see our map for details). he said it was nice, but he'll try to get on the right boat next time.

be good, keep well and give peas a chance.

(*delete as applicable)

Wednesday 19th April 2006
it's our party, and we'll cry if we want to

it's all go at hesitation heights - the official base of jf&th when we're not riding around in the funbus sharing smiles with the children.

first up, our recent venture into myspace means that we have new listeners, and perhaps more importantly, people wondering what are we on about. are we sane? are we special? fear not folks, we are all these things and more.

melvina from philly (i presume she emailed from the US, and not the trading estate in wassailingtown, england) reckons that we are "great" and that she would "sho like to meet [us]". well, melissa, we'd love to come and visit you in philly and play some tunes. we are currently saving our bus fares and 'researching' how easy it is these days to stow away on ships to the new world. i last spoke to mambo on saturday and he was down the docks, i have not heard from him since. we will of course get back to you about this, but please, start buying lime, you sound like you have a mountain of love to share with us already.

preparations are all go for the gig. my health has returned and i must admit i'm quite excited. by friday i will be on the edge of this here seat. mambo is missing in action so won't be at the gig, nor will john, but i spoke to him yesterday and it was his birthday. yay. it's my birthday too on saturday. yay. and it's mamboze the week after that. yay. it's like an unnoticed coincidence that we'd not noticed before. unless we'd noticed it drunk and forgotton it. highly likley.

so, we have a bass and a glock joining us, and a voice, and the possibility of some wind instrument, but i'm not too sure about that one. either way it will be F*U*N!

this saturday - the 22nd, the hut, upstairs, fizzbro, 8 p.m., a few euro to get in, ?3? i cannae mind. CDs on sale for bananas apparently.

before i forget, we've put in some fun things in the fun section to amuse our new visitors

am going for my tea now. love, and wine - it's our birthday after all. jf

Sunday 9th April 2006
gig news

yes folks, hard to believe, but we've another gig - that means three in three months (if you're bad at maths)

big monster love has requested our presence in the hut. this time i'm not going to let myself be disappointed by lack of pizza when i get there, so i'll have one before i leave. depending on my timing i might see a sunset as i go.

now on to other news. i had some people in far flung lands (like america and the south side) tell me that they had trouble downloading some songs. i can only apologise for this, and make sympathetic 'aws' in your direction. i have been proactive and set up a myspace though - all the kids have them these days. get yourself to myspace.com/loveandlime - which is our myspace. if you're clever, you'll be able to hear paul o'reilly, and possibly some big monster love to whet your proverbial before the gig. the yeh deadlies are playing too, but it's all a big surprise as to what noise they'll make.

i probably should tell you that the gig's on the 22nd of april (8 p.m., the hut, phibsboro), i'm sure i'm meant to be doing something else that day... it'll come to me.

where is the fun?

"jonny, jonny, jonny help us

send us some guidance from a nun

'cause people got me, got me questionin'

where is the fun?"

i had that asked of me (in song) twice in the last week. alas, i am lacking a nun. i have none infact. none nuns. but i can confirm that we are here.

oh, where have we been? what have we been doing? is apology all that ever appears on 'news from the fun bus'? perhaps.

er, i forgot to phone up the internet people, and the website died, but it's here now, and growing with nonsense, as you are clearly aware by reading this.

gigs? i hear you ask? yeah, we have done a couple. played down in bruxelles with jazz in the zodiac sessions which was great. some people listened too, which is always nice - i waved at them 'cos i was happy with their attentiveness.

also i played at the hut, in phibsboro - an all you can eat special ?2. bargain. apart from there was no food. only tunes. but it was great to do a proper gig to random people, who got excited and bought lots of 'end of an error' cds. i signed some too. hopefully some of you nice people are reading this and we'll see you soon for more fun.

citric greetings

Monday, 8th August, 2005
so here we are twelve months on...

hello! we are here, but not really. we're all on a bit of a hesitation holiday. it's 12 months since we played bagfull of songs in le drog and promised you people that we'd be off to do an album. well, we started it so we'll finish one day. promise.

i realised that i'd not updated this site since february, which is a bit lax of me. we have however...

- played a gig in the kitchen

- played little gigs outside the kitchen

(such as on the landing and in the garden)

- played some gigs in pubs

- jonny played in whelans with billy fitzgerald

- jonny played in shligo with the dead flags

- john has been doing lots of his album stuff

- mambo is training to be a doctor

so, we have kept ourselves busy.

one day soon we'll be back with shiny new things for you, and perhaps with some fun too.

surprise gig announced

mambo has confirmed that he will play on the same bill as the mokos on sunday 13th february at the inn on north street, st andrews.

this is the first jonny fun and the hesitations gig since weekend in sheffield in 2004. he won't be joined by jonny fun or john, but he is likely to debut the band's 'canada girl' song and play 'weekend in sheffield' (both from the band's upcoming release 'carpe p.m.').

asked if he would be playing glock, mambo replied: "i would love to play glock on sunday. unfortunately, jonny fun has the glock. that sounds a bit like a disease doesn't it? struck down by the glock in his prime!"

doors 8 p.m.

Sunday, February 6 2005
i think i'm alone now

i know you keep checking back to see if we're alive...

rest easy, we are.

but we nearly weren't. we were all sick, the... hesitations were all poorly. i had some hot cold thing, john had the mumps and very large cheeks, and mambo sported a beard for a bit.

as a result we've done nowt with carpe p.m. but john and me are going to try and finish it two weeks hence. you never know, it might happen.

never being a band to do things logically, we have started work on our second album though '1905'. myself and mambo have writt a song called 'a girl like that' - it warns you of the perils of dancing. but the perils aren't so bad it turns out, music and morals. and i've done some recording this weekend, including a nice wee song by tiffany - which was written by deborah 'debbie' gibson.

ooh - out of the blue!

until next time... be good to yourself, and smile at a nice boy or girl today - you never know your luck.

crossword clues, yesterdays news, i never really was in fashion

hey folks. how've you been?

really, i mean it. how are you? what you been up to? have you been out for lunch recently? had some soup maybe? read the paper? yeah? that's good to hear.

you're probably wondering why i'm being so nice. i'm just in a good mood that's all. the birds are singing, the leaves are falling from the trees and the world is at peace. well, it could be if we all shared a bit more love, rather than shred our love, which is what lots of folk seem to do.

we still haven't got round to writing up WIS04, but you were there so you knew what happened. and carpe p.m. is closer than it was! but if it wasn't taking so long it wouldn't live up to its name would it? we ain't as daft as we look.

just back from l.a. with my buddy the prof. we did some driving round in an open top fun bus with an 87 year old grandmother. she was cool. she dug the idea of the... hesitations when i told her. think she may have a hankering to be a hesitette. word!

written a new song for you all to hear at the next gig. it features johnny o'connor on the g'chello - a guitar-chello combination instrument. it's called 'i never liked him anyway' or 'i want to love a girl with passion'. you can make up your mind what you prefer to call it depending on your mood.

remember, being happy on the inside counts double.

the field of shefs - part two hundred and seventy three

well, we did it. we are all still alive, despite the best efforts of mainly ourselves. it was a bit of a mental weekend and my head is only nearly back to how it was before i went, which in actual fact is not a good state for a head - bound in sellotape i must admit.

seeing as it's a full moon tonight, it seems appropriate to describe WIS04 as lunarcy, lots of bands, lots of booze, and it was 'for the kids' as country jim reminded us, lots.

thanks to all the lush people who bought 'end of an error' WIS04 special edition for a pound, we sold about 40 copies and gave all the money to the kids. somehow 40 times ?1 made ?52.12, i know i'm not great at maths but...

my personal highlight had to be mambo's message, which we deliberately didn't listen to until during set, this meant that me and john had really bad giggles for the rest of the set, and then i got cramp in my hand playing the guitar. ow!

we'll put a full review and some bits and pieces up soon, but it's time for bed now and i've yet to have my fill of love and lime for the day, but i must before i sleep.

glock and roll!

the field of shefs - part one

folks, the time is almost upon us. weekend in sheffield festival is nearly here. the young people are calling it WIS04. we're not entirely sure why. it's guaranteed to be lots of fun though.

some of our musical friends will be there too such as country jim and the bitesize cowboys as well as the bluesters and beccy owen. have a look at www.weekendinsheffield.co.uk for more info.

jonny and john will be playing tunes from the new album 'carpe p.m.' along with some of your old favourites. mambo can't make it but he will be sending a special surprise. only mambo knows what this is. a bag of nuts for all gig goers? a big photo of mambo? a book token?

we'll have to wait and see, october 23!

Tuesday, August 24, 2004
you are a patient lot

howdy

many big sorries for our, now customary, silence. we have really been busy with jf&th stuff this time. we'll have a proper update soon, but in a nutshell... an international tour of three gigs (drogheda, glasgow, and newcastle), lots of photos, press coverage (honestly), 'weekend in sheffield festival' preparations (october 23rd), but most importantly, we've been recording our new album, 'carpe pm'!

we finished the guts of it tonight, and we think you'll quite like it. we reckon we'll have it ready for you to get your hands on at the aforementioned 'weekend in sheffield festival', which will also be featuring many other great bands.

we'll be back soon to fill you in on those details above. there's a fair bit to tell, you have mambo's pep talks to look forward to, too. in the meantime, we've been eating so much pizza and watching far too many sunsets that we need a lie down. l+l. jf

Sunday, June 27, 2004
they wouldn't let us in

well folks, after being a band of, oh approximately 7 years, it had to happen...

jonny fun and the... hesitations were all in the same place at the same time! last weekend we all went to glasgow. and what a time we had. spurred on by forthcoming album recording, we thought it best to get together and have some ginger beer etc.

jonny and mambo had a couple on thursday night and prepared a 'jonny fun and the... hesitations welcome you to glasgow banner'. so friday came, the punters getting off the 13.50 to glasgow looked mightily confused as they hit glasgow central but polish john just looked mightily pleased to see such a bright banner in his honour. and who wouldn't be?

clearly the night didn't stop there, it was only 7 bells after all. we went to the fine 'press bar' in glasgow and insisted that drunken men take a picture of us drunken men, they duly obliged. we'll put the pics up soon once we've discussed it with our lawyers. having been refused entry to the student union, we attempted to go to a birthday party. although we acknowledged the hosts insistence that it was in fact a "private" party, they refused to let us know where the bar was. obviously we played the 'don't you know who we are?' card. then we left. finally, we had a mad ride in glasgow's official lynnyrd skynnyrd taxi, followed by two really really big pizzas. alas, by this stage we had missed the sunset.

after sellotaping our heads back together on saturday morning we recorded 'i'm in the mood for dancing'. in truth, none of us were.

so, in summary, we had fun. we will do it again. in the meantime, bagfull of songs on friday. eimear carroll's playing, so the word on the street says. not sure who else but it'll be great. the admirals, 9.30, shop street, le drog. love and lime

bagfull of fun

having only just properly recovered from the excesses of friday night it's time for an update, lie back and think of louth...

we can safely say that a fun time was had by all. well, all of the jf&th crowd had a good time anyway. and we reckon the other punters did too. all round good blokey tom anderson kicked off the night followed by (slimline) jonnyfun and the... hesitations - only jonny could do the gig. mambo is now a dad and was on dad duty (hurray!) and polack john was busy waving polish flags in honour of all this new european business. still, jonny got some claps and giggles. then he played his set.

brand new... hesitation willie johnston got up and played chime bars magnificently. rosslare school of music's loss is our gain.

the strangleberries did some more chime barring, gerry and aiden got up as did brian connely and garry and joe. cheers to colm for making us sound geet good like.

jf&th proudly got rid of 20-odd cds on friday night, our sixth release of recent times called 'end of an error'. it's got 'your name in song' on it, and 'little miss sunshine (and me)' as well as 'smalltalk'and 'weekend in sheffield' on it - featuring polack john doing a fine singing voice. the cds went at a bargain one whole european euro - saving approx 63c on a uk gig. move to ireland people, it's great!

on that bombshell we must conlude that the aftershow party lacked any ragtime jazz shenanegans this time but we were accosted by a man who wanted to ride in our taxi for fun. he clearly embraces the ethos of jf&th. must go, tis beer o'clock

we don't need no glockenspeil. oi teacher, give us chime bars!

... --- ... ... --- ...

er, we're in a bit of a situation here. we can't find a glockenspeil for the gig on friday. eek

a dub music shop wants to take 795euro off us for one, but we think that's a bit of a piss take. we could buy a crate of beer, drink it, fill the bottles with water and use that for less money and probably have more fun than going on a trip to dublin's unfair city. if anyone does have one please send us a moo-mail

like the ghostbusters

we're back! yes, lovers of fun, we're sorry we've been so quiet but we've been having bags of fun. three to be precise. today, however, we stocked up the fun bus with love, and chocolate limes, we had a few beers and looked back on our glorious year - 'cos it's good to look back, just don't stare. anyway, we had a ginger beer or four and went back to john's house and recorded a new song called 'your name in song', from our forthcoming album (expect to have it in your hands sometime next year). we've just finished this instanct, so we're going for a celebratory beer. peace. p.s. hope you had a nice christmas.

fun boy one

my dear funologists

are you well?

i trust that as the evenings creep in upon you that you're sitting there with a glint in your eye remembering the summer of fun that you've just had.

we are too. remembering the joys of your summer obviously... our's was of course scarred by not winning the drogheeeda unsigned bands competition.

however, as an international rock and roll outfit we have of course put this behind us and we've already started on our new project.

bet you're dying to know what it is... we'll tell you very soon 'cos if we told you straight off there'd be no sense of drama or occasion, and trust us... you'll love our next idea and more importantly we'd like you to be involved

love and (chocolate) lime(s)

you might as well face it...

...you're addicted to fun

did we tell you we're writing a film, as well as recording an album? oh yes, we handle rejection really well...

if you'd like to suggest a title for our film, or request an audition for one of the parts, or even if you can think of a plot, then drop us an email - we'd love to hear from you.

the end of the line

just like george harrison, we've come to the end of the line. the george harrison song, that is...

last night we came second in the mcphail's bar unsigned bands competition, and thus failed to qualify for the final. grand final, indeed. the winners, minty, from navan were the only other band on the bill last night - the optimist may have suggested that less bands equals less competition, but not us.

here's why we didn't win: our percussion section = one shakey egg. minty's percussion section = one very very good drummer and a fantastic conga player. our wind section = harmonica (in c) and melodica (a child's instrument.) minty's brass section = lush jazzy muted trumpet.

(oh yes, and they were better than us...)

jonny fun and the... hesitations: we're one of the eight best bands in a sattelite town of a european capital city, and we're damn proud. keep the faith children, and have fun. love and lime, jp

pizza, sunsets, ginger beer...

...are our favourite ways to prepare for a gig, obviously, but we haven't had the luxury today.

it's round two (the semi final) of the drogheda unsigned bands competition tonight, and we've prepared by watching carol mailier on the bbc local news.

carol: don't worry. we'll be ok.

so keep your fingers crossed, and stay tuned to see how we do. we can only hope, like little billy the dyslexic, to be considered average once again.

tragicomedy

i drew a condensation face on the mirror, it cried a tear.

my life is tragicomedy.

it's official - we're average!

jonny fun the... hesitations are quite tired. last night we played at mcphails unsigned bands competition in drogheda, and came second of three acts! the judges awarded us 74 fun points, which might be enough to see us through to the next round.

we recorded the gig, and, more importantly, our drunken shenanegans at the six hour after show party, so expect to see new live mp3s here just as soon as we sober up, including versions of shivers, little miss sunshine and she hangs. a very, very, very drunken version of saturday night fish fry, featuring eamer the beamer on double bass, john on ragtime geetar and jonny fun on egg may also find it's way into our fun section. love and lime, children.

fao lizzy cranbush

jonny's pleased to announce that polack john is flying over for the drogheda gig. this truly emphasised the notion that jf&th are an international band and the gig in luxembourg was not just a one off. are you reading this lizzy cranbush? (she slagged us in the brighton and hove evening star).

oh, and the website's been spring cleaned, updated and generally transformed. john has been waking in cold sweats with some of the crazy ideas you?ll find herein. his bethrothed is relieved that it's now up and running and she can get eight hours without a man screaming in html in bed beside her. though I know some folk who'd pay good money for that kinda talk...

hobo... not homo

last night jonny opened the club tent at the cambridge folk festival (and you thought he could only rock). he was playing the integral mandolin man in the revolutionary bums ? a four piece band (see rock family tree). the set opened the club tent on saturday and went down a storm. some people even came... into the tent. an american gentlemen complimented jonny on his 'fine right hand action'. although open-minded jonny moved swiftly on. expect more from the bums in the autumn.

f?lte, bienvenue, wilkommen, aaaalreet!

jonny fun the... hesitations bid you welcome by speaking in tongues. great news for all you loyal, beautiful and most importantly, trustworthy jf&th fans ? we have a gig. mcphails pub, in drogheda, co louth (that?s in ireland for the geographically impaired among you). we'll be doing a 40 minute slot in an unsigned bands competition on thursday 14th august 2003.

expect to hear classics such as the psycho song, little miss sunshine (and me), and newer bits and bobs like small talk and the wheels on the bus. come along, get a free cd and maybe a bag of nuts (salted).
